The Long-Awaited Paleo Post

Okay, so I keep promising (or promised at some point?) to talk about Paleo. Which is a style of eating that I tried for a bit and loved, but which has been (along with many, many other things) collateral damage of my seizure tornado. (FYI–If you understood that last sentence, you’re either related to me, paying much more attention to these blog posts than I think anyone is, or we’re soul mates).

Anyway–Paleo is basically eating protein, veggies, and fruit. Is it technically also not eating dairy, grains, legumes, sugar? Yes. But I’m an optimist… let’s focus on the good things you do eat instead of the things you “can’t.” There are many sites where they talk about the Paleo diet at (extreme) length. I’ve posted a handy infographic at the end of this post for those of you who want more info. Or you can Google it.

All I’ll say is this:

  1. I think the science behind the “diet” works more because you’re feeding yourself really high quality food with good nutrients than any actual link to what “cavemen” hunted/gathered, and
  2. I felt awesome and saw results when I was on it. Which is really the only real test any of us can apply. I tried it. I felt good. I’m going to start it again one of these days. I’d recommend that you give it a shot and see if it works for you and whatever goals you have.

If you do decide to try it, my absolute favorite place to go to get Paleo recipes is paleomg.com. Primarily because this girl is hilarious. I’m pretty sure we’d be instant friends if we met in real life. Alas, we have not. So I just try her recipes out instead. I almost always change something because I’m not really into following directions, but that probably has more to do with my innate restlessness than any deficiency in her recipes. For example, these summer squash pancakes sound amazing. If you’re interested in Paleo at all (or just like people whose blogging is like watching a quirky, verbal ping-pong match carried on within one person’s brain) you should go cruise through her site.

Here’s the infographic about it for those of you looking for a basic framework:
